Captain Walcott Pierce
Pierce enrolled into Starfleet Academy. He was determined to be the best pilot in the fleet and his instructors believed that would be his eventual fate. During his tenure at the Academy, Pierce excelled in classes relating to piloting, and aviation. He was also very gifted when it came to history and medicine. However, his engineering classes yielded rather mediocre grades for the cadet. He endeavored to do better however and eventually passed with acceptable 'C' averages.
As a part of his internship, he was stationed on board the USS Pegasus as a fill-in at the helm. The Pegasus served in the Dominion War, and Pierce took over as helmsman when their Chief of Flight Operations had been killed. He received high marks from the Pegasus' CO saying that he would have "expected this from a lieutenant or commander but not a fourth year cadet." The recommendation would do Pierce wonders. After graduating with the rank of ensign, Pierce was assigned to the USS Pegasus as their chief helmsman. He remained there and with it's captain until he was promoted and re-assigned to Starbase 422 on the border of Cardassian space. He was discouraged, since on a Starbase, there was little to pilot. He stuck with it however and earned himself a promotion to Lieutenant.
His superior on the Starbase noticed that Pierce was not enjoying his posting and put in a request to have him be assigned to the USS Armstrong as their Chief of Flight Operations. After he spent two years on the Armstrong, Pierce's CO at the time suggested that he teach at the academy. At first Pierce was hesitant, he never had any desire to teach but his CO had his full confidence in him and Pierce made sure not to let him down. He accepted the transfer and moved back to Earth.
Pierce taught several aviation classes, including some intense live shuttle exercises around Jupiter and Saturn. After three years of teaching, Pierce was rather concerned after one of his graduating students became the USS Enterprise's Chief of Flight Operations. His feeling of sadness was pushed aside however as he learned he was being promoted to Lieutenant Commander and being transfered to the USS Rixx as their Executive Officer. After two years there, the captain of the Rixx suggested that he take up an offer to command a starship. He turned down two offers in the past, but decided against it. He wasn't sure if it was the fact that it was a galaxy class starship or that the ship had just become a second home. Finally the captain of the Rixx ordered Pierce to accept the next command he was offered. Two months later after being promoted to Commander, he was given command of the USS Achilles.
