After discovering the Omega particle on a moon orbiting Cardassia, the Achilles was attacked by a Romulan warbird with a strange power signature. Meanwhile, two Romulan corpses from the Cardassian moon show serious signs of torture and memory alteration. Who would do this? And Why?

After disabling the Romulan ship, the Achilles managed to make it back to a starbase. Now that repairs are completed, the Achilles has been sent back to the Romulan warbird to learn more about the situation.

Upon arrival at the Romulan warbird, they discover that the crew of the ship were killed by a race known as the Lacinet who were protecting themselves. When Omega is destroyed by conventional means, it harms subspace, where the Lacinet live. The crew of the Achilles then begins to put the Omega particles in the Romulans singularity core where they are destroyed safely. The mixture of the Omega particles and the core begin to destabilize the core and the ship has only seconds before it explodes.
